September 8 (21) - The Nativity of our Most Holy Lady the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary

Troparion:
Your Nativity, O Virgin, / Has proclaimed joy to the whole universe! / The Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, / Has shone from You, O Theotokos! / By annulling the curse, / He bestowed a blessing. / By destroying death, He has granted us eternal Life.
Kontakion:
By Your Nativity, O Most Pure Virgin, / Joachim and Anna are freed from barrenness; / Adam and Eve, from the corruption of death. / And we, your people, freed from the guilt of sin, celebrate and sing to you: / The barren woman gives birth to the Theotokos, the nourisher of our life!

Church New Year (Indiction)

The New Year (Greek Ἀρχὴ τῆς Ἰνδίκτου) is a feast celebrated by the Orthodox Church on September 1 (September 14), dedicated to the start of a new year in the liturgical calendar. On this day Orthodox Christians pray to God asking for the blessing for the year that has just started.

Pilgrimage trip to Rawdon, QC

Dear brothers and sisters!
This fall we plan to organize a pilgrimage trip to Rawdon, QC. In this small town, located in picturesque forested foothills 50 kilometers north of Montreal, there are two Russian Orthodox churches, a Russian cemetery, and the monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
In one of the churches there is a fragment of relics of the patron saint of our parish, St. Seraphim of Sarov. Brought from Russia by the Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna and subsequently bequested by her to Bishop Sylvester, Archbishop of Montreal, this particle provided beneficial assistance to believers at a time when the main relics of the blessed hermit in Russia was considered lost.
We want to organize a two-night trip on a long weekend - either Labour Day (September 1-4), or on Canadian Thanksgiving Day (October 6-9). Departure is possible on Friday or Saturday. We may go by a rented bus or in our cars - this will depend on the number of those who want to do the pilgrimage. Also, we need to determine the number of pilgrims as soon as possible so we can book accommodation. To date, the estimated costs are about $120 per person. It may turn out to be higher or lower eventually, and it also depends on the number of people. Therefore, we ask all those who are interested to fill in the form (at the candlebox during services) as soon as possible. If you really want to go, but due to exceptional circumstances you are not able to pay the entire amount, let us know. We'll see, maybe something will be done, although we can not guarantee anything yet. And if, on the contrary, you can and want to pay more to cover somebody else's travel expenses, we will be extremely grateful.
When the next time you are in the church, please ask for a pilgrimage questionnaire at the candle box and fill it in. If you need a subsidy for this pilgrimage trip, indicate this on the form.
You can also contact us by e-mail.
If you want to go, please write to st.seraphim.ca@gmail.com and provide the following information:
